Juvenile Delinquency And How It Is Social Control Theory,...

Juvenile Delinquency and How it Relates to Social Control Theory, Labeling Perspective, Aggressiveness and Crime Pat Akers Howard Payne University Abstract This paper explores three topics (Social Control Theory, Labeling Perspective, Aggressiveness and Crime) and explores how they relate through Juvenile Delinquency. Social Control Theory is what occurs when young adults do not have a good foundational upbringing from their parents and as such, they will tend to stray into more deviant behaviors. With repeated deviant actions, these youth will become labeled in our society as deviants or outcasts. Through Social Control Theory and the labeling perspective these minors may feel like they have become trapped and could escalate in their actions, drug usage and crimes. Juvenile Delinquency and How it Relates to Social Control Theory, Labeling Perspective, Aggressiveness and Crime Several studies have been conducted on Juvenile Delinquency. We will be investigating how Juvenile Delinquency relates to Social Control Theory, Labeling Perspective, Aggressiveness and Crime. The first topic we will be looking at is Social Control Theory. Social Control Theory â€Å"According to social control theorists, all human beings are, by nature, rule breakers. The bonds that people have to society and its moral code are what keep them from breaking the law and remaining socially controlled,† (Levinthal, 2012). â€Å"When a juvenile is strongly bonded to his or her family, religiousShow MoreRelatedWhy People Commit The Crime Essay1538 Words   |  7 PagesCriminological theory is the explanation of criminal behavior, as well as the behavior of juveniles, attorneys, prosecutors, judges, correctional personnel, victims, and other actors in the criminal justice process. Criminological theory is important because most of what is done in criminal justice is based on criminological theory, whether we or the people who propose and implement policies based on the theory know it or not. In criminology, examining why people commit the crime is very importantRead MoreThe Labeling Theory For Juvenile Delinquency1577 Words   |  7 PagesThe Labeling Theory The labeling theory addresses deviants and puts concern on behaviors that other theories do not. Most theories are primarily concerned with why individuals commit more crime. Rather than analyzing the occurrence of crimes among social groups, the labeling theory challenge us to truly understand deviants and what it means to be categorized as a deviant individual. Thus, understanding delinquents and how they behave is crucial when considering the effectivenessRead MoreThe Concept Of Labeling Of Juvenile Delinquents By Members Of Their Society1733 Words   |  7 Pages5 DB 1 The Interactionist Approach We are beginning to see more than often, labeling of juvenile delinquents by members of their society. The term labeling theory explains how labeling tends to applied members of society, whether it is formally or informally, and the type of effect these labeling can have on juveniles and deterrence. Akers Sellers, (2009), Bernard, Snipes, Gerould, (2010), states that the labeling theorists assert that society creates deviance by creating laws, and they tendRead MoreLabeling Offenders Within The Criminal Justice1551 Words   |  7 Pagesparadigm that supports the use of labeling offenders within the criminal justice is cleverly, labeling theory. Mentioned lightly above, was the premise behind labeling theory. This theoretical paradigm is predominantly interesting in exploring labeling of offenders, due to the fact that it both targets the offenders, as well as the individuals who are placing labels or stigmatizing the offenders in the first place based off the perceived deviant ac tion. Labeling theory is truly prevalent, and is stillRead MoreGender Roles : The Juvenile Justice System1244 Words   |  5 PagesGender Roles in the Juvenile Justice System What role does gender play at the various stages of the juvenile justice system? Gender plays an enormous role in the juvenile justice system; both boys and girls have their fair share of run-ins with the Juvenile Justice System, but now more so than ever, females crime rates have increased. In some instances within the juvenile justice system, it may appear that boys and girls are comparable; however there are differences, even though they are subtle.Read MoreJuvenile Delinquency And Labeling Theory2511 Words   |  11 Pages Juvenile Delinquency and Labeling Theory Kallie Maglione St. John’s University CRM 119 Juvenile Delinquency Dr. Marquis R. Electrical Reflection - 875 Words

H igh-power laser diodes are addressing an increasing number of applications, which demand higher performance in terms of output power, power conversion efficiency and beam quality, such as additive manufacturing [1]. High output power from a single emitter can be achieved by incorporating a large gain medium, which also helps in increasing the catastrophic optical mirror damage (COMD) threshold. Although, laser diodes are becoming more attractive in direct applications, nevertheless, they are almost always operated with external feedback. The optics causing this feedback range from simple optics, for shaping/focusing the output beam, to sophisticated optics configurations, required for wavelength stabilization [2], and phase locking [3].†¦show more content†¦This is achieved by including spontaneous emission coupling and the spectral dependence of the gain and refractive index. Speclase also models non-linear effects (e.g. thermal lensing, spatial hole burning), which are c ommon in high-brightness lasers. The beam data produced by Speclase, in the form of near-field (NF) and far-field (FF), are converted into ray data. These ray data are used to configure the laser as a source within Optic Studio. Speclase propagates the optical fields between the rear and the front facet using 2D WA-FD-BPM. At the front facet, part of the power within the modes will reflect off the facet, while the rest will be transmitted through. The spatial superposition of transmitted powers, of all the modes, forms the near-field of the transmitted beam. The rays are propagated through the optics using OpticStudio ®, taking reflections into account. The rays returning to the laser facet are converted into optical fields, taking the phases of the rays into account. Then, the proportion coupled to each vertical mode is determined, using the overlap integral. Finally, the vertical modes, containing the coherent sum of the power coupled from the external cavity (coherently) and the internally reflected fields, are propagated by Speclase inside the laser cavity using a Fox-Li approach. This whole process is repeated until convergence. II. In the other side, the older generation can use this fable to dress their children by showing them how great friends can help them in the difficult or impressments situation. The fable prevent from being seen is that the young people can not only help the old people, but also they can do something valuable to society, such as creating new technology and developing an old system. The Pierces - 13 Tales of Love and Revenge free essay sample

In a time when Mileys and Lil Waynes dominate the music scene, the task of finding a worthwhile album may seem unattainable. Before you give up, however, let the Pierces â€Å"13 Tales of Love and Revenge† renew your faith. The Pierces, an indie, folk, pop group with gypsy influences, begin their third release with â€Å"Secret,† an acoustic waltz based on a Benjamin Franklin aphorism. The song laces ominous lyrics with carnival themes to pose the warning that â€Å"two can keep a secret/if one of them is dead.† The tune speeds up near the end to symbolize the frenzy of trying to keep ones mouth shut. The album continues with â€Å"Boring,† a dark, edgy track that syncs Egyptian harmonies with biting verses. Lamenting that â€Å"nothing thrills us anymore/no one kills us anymore,† the Pierces give a sarcastic  interpretation that boredom stems from overindulgence. For fans of fairy tales, â€Å"Three Wishes† is a melancholy but whimsical piece that would be a perfect soundtrack for any medieval tale. Inspired by the music of the ?s, â€Å"Boy in a Rock and Roll Band† opens with a swingy intro that rivals the appeal of Rihannas infamous â€Å"bum bum be-dum,† and the Pierce sisters let their Alabama roots peek out, singing with Southern twangs in the chorus. With distinctive tunes and surprising lyrical twists, â€Å"13 Tales† can restore hope to even the most jaded listener. It deviates from convention with obscure instruments including the banjo, calliope, and sitar. The Pierce girls throw themselves into their songs, assuming roles from lovesick victims (â€Å"Go to Heaven†) to haughty socialites (â€Å"Boring†), with a knack for spinning cliched  situations into unique listening experiences. Relying heavily on the appeal to pathos, each song tells a different tale, and this album can be just as cherished as a favorite storybook.

Do Some Research on Fact-Checking

Do Some Research on Fact-Checking Do Some Research on Fact-Checking Do Some Research on Fact-Checking By Mark Nichol Do you want to be a magazine writer? I know it’s a highly competitive profession, but I’ve got two words for you (and a bonus hyphen): fact-checking. What’s that? Fact-checking is an entry-level profession in the magazine industry that can lead to staff or freelance writing opportunities. Fact-checkers are responsible for verifying every quantifiable piece of information in an article: spelling of names and entities such as companies, institutions, and organizations; names of products and services; dates of birth, incorporation, and publication; prices and profits; and more so much more. Sound tedious? It can be, but it is also excellent training for reporters and writers: not only do fact-checkers (also called research editors) vet article content, they also often help writers with background research. Once you put in a couple of years as a staff or contract fact-checker, you’ve got a leg up on many other writers when it comes to turning in meticulously researched articles not to mention getting a crash course in reporting by doing preliminary work for more experienced writers and fact-checking numerous articles. Fact-checkers are often given brief writing assignments or are even promoted to junior writing positions, but the career ladder doesn’t stop there: Onetime fact-checkers include CNN newsman Anderson Cooper, novelist Jay McInerney, and former Harper’s editor Roger Hodge. Not every magazine has staff or freelance fact-checkers by that name; sometimes, interns or junior editors fill the role as part of their job duties, or copy editors do at least rudimentary fact-checking. Other publications, with fewer resources, trust writers to get their facts straight. Most newspapers don’t have the time or the budget for this stage, though the German daily Der Spiegel is a notable exception: It employs dozens of fact-checkers. Publications began employing fact-checkers less than a hundred years ago (the New Yorker, one of the first magazines to do so, even verifies facts in the poetry it publishes), and the profession isn’t going anywhere; even with the revolution in access to information engendered by the Internet, it’s still a vital function. And thanks to online research, it’s much easier to accomplish, though it still requires rigorous attention to detail. If you’ve tried in vain to break into magazine writing, either as a staff writer or a freelancer, you might want to consider applying to become a fact-checker. You’ll be starting out on the ground floor, but that means you’ll be the foundation of a publication’s reputation for veracity, and if you have what it takes, you’ll likely be noticed and rewarded. And though you’re not guaranteed a promotion, the job is often a stepping stone to work for other publications. But don’t take my word for it: Do some fact-checking. Ethical and Cultural Issues Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Ethical and Cultural Issues - Essay Example Many people tend to believe that business is business and it is about standardized business practices that happen to be same around the world. They think that the relevance of culture in business is overrated. However, nothing could be far from the truth. The thing that needs to be understood is that every business system happens to evolve around a culture and is significantly influenced by the cultural norms and beliefs (Johnson & Turner, 2007). Thereby while undertaking business operations in foreign nations, it is quiet feasible to offend people from a different business culture, without even intending to actually do so. Yet, it is also a fact that even if one agrees to the fact that business systems do get influenced by culture, it is difficult to ascertain as to how much one should know about a culture while engaging in business with it. There is no definite answer. Certainly, cultural knowhow is important, yet more important is the attitude of the managers managing business in a foreign culture (Johnson & Turner, 2007). ... A manager working in a foreign culture also needs to retain an attitude that is caring about the society in which one operates. For instance while doing business in China, a manager needs to remember that the Chinese society is highly shaped and moulded by traditional Confucian values that affiliate to a strict sense of propriety and norms (Alon, 2007). It is these norms and values that determine as to how a person ought to operate, act and behave while dealing with a range of social hierarchies. In addition, it is a fact that the Chinese tend to maintain little separation between their business life and personal life, and each business decision tends to have a personal context (Alon, 2007). One important thing to be understood is that the concepts of ‘mianzi’ and ‘guanxi’ happen to highly influence the business ethics in China. Guanxi happens to be a system of business connections, contacts, networks and relations that is really complex and deeply imbedded (Alon, 2007). These connections are formed over decades and happen to run deep. Mianzi is affiliated to the concept of face and in a broader term it could be interpreted as a concern for one’s personal self respect and self respect of the others (Alon, 2007). Hence, while dealing with ethical issues in China a manager always needs to remember that no concern for ethics may supersede the notions of guanxi and mianzi. The Chinese notion of ethics is flexible in the sense that while deciding about ethics it does tends to show consideration for personal relationships and the onus of allowing others to save their sense of face, even if it involves somewhat

Business Trend analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

Business Trend analysis - Essay Example The essay "Business Trend Analysis: Celebrity Endorsements for Adolescent Product Marketing" is a profound analysis of the recent trends in the Product Marketing. Researcher focuses on the link between celebrity culture and consumer capitalism is evident in all forms of mass communication. All advertisers know that when used properly, celebrities can be very powerful marketing tools and help amplify the effects of an ad campaign. At the same time they must be very cautious in the current market to utilize this strong influence in an appropriate manner with carefully screened or ‘foolproof’ endorsers to avoid the kind of negative repercussions felt by products recently endorsed by such Hollywood embarrassments as Paris Hilton, Brittney Spears or Lindsey Lohan. Advertising agencies must decide by what method to utilise celebrities for a campaign. Agencies are cautious of potential downsides much more than potential upsides if the campaign has a long-term strategy. Celebrit ies alone do not guarantee success as consumers understand advertising, know what advertising is, and how it works. People know celebrities are being paid a lot of money for endorsements and this knowledge leads them to cynicism about celebrity endorsements. Particularly within the adolescent market, where potential endorsers are teenagers themselves and thus highly susceptible to the kinds of sensationalistic headlines as those produced recently, it is wise to avoid celebrity endorsement as often as possible.

Managing the Environment for Tourism and Events Essay

Managing the Environment for Tourism and Events - Essay Example nclusion of the conference was that the tourism industry needed awareness on the negative effects, and that there was a need to promote the adoption of behaviors that were more responsible in tourism for the future, if tourism was to attain significant sustainability in the future (Moscardo, Konovalov, Murphy and McGehee, 2013). The climatic change resulting from global warming is among the most critical challenges of environment in the 21st century practices. The scientific explanations that are widely acknowledged associate the steady rise in average earth temperatures and in the oceans to the high level of concentrated anthropogenic greenhouse gases (Shakeela, Breakey and Ruhanen, 2012). Hotel facilities and other tourism-related departments are considered as among the top consumers of energy within the commercial and service sector. Among these, waste constitutes a substantive amount of the energy use in the industry, hence the need for energy-efficiency enhancement and conservation of resources in the industry (Saufi, OBrien and Wilkins, 2014). Several studies have thus been carried out in order to establish the environmental issues within the industry with the aim of formulating the ideal industry practices for environmental sustainability. The main aspect of responsible environmental practices is the general product or enterprise life cycle. This includes the management of the business, as well as the integration of establishment with the management of the environment (Hall, 2011). All enterprises in tourism are capable of making important contributions towards sustainable environment of practice such as through support of local products producers and offering advice to the guests concerning the making of responsible decisions on purchases (Shakeela, Breakey and Ruhanen, 2012). Establishments have the responsibility of minimizing the energy requirements, reduce pollution of light, noise and air, as well as considering the neighborhood of the business

Managing Financial Principals And Techniques Accounting Essay

Managing Financial Principals And Techniques Accounting Essay Price and cost is the key to costs because it can quite often decide the benefit costs which add up to form the price of the item. So, you would usually here the term Price Cutting when it comes to large companies to increase the benefit edge but when costs considerably go up they do effect the price of the item but usually producers would like to keep the price continuous when there are minimal improvements on price. Costs are eventually part of a companys technique and we should, therefore go back to where ideal preparing should begin: the organizations objective. There we will find the companys objective, its self-perception, its sensation about its place in the market, and content about the companys lifestyle and values. Costs cannot be divided from objective. In profit-seeking companies, earnings have to surpass costs; in not-for benefit companies income has to go with income. By this level of your research you should be well aware that any positive participation (that is when minor earnings surpass minor costs) helps to cover set expenses. To benefit, income has to surpass all expenses. What might become more appropriate in ideal control is the value of chance expenses and of quit expenses. A chance price is the income foregone as a result of a choice. If you develop on a lot you cannot then sell the area for farming, for example, and the sale price foregone is a chance price of the choice to develop. Exit expenses can occur when trying to give up a technique. For example, in some nations large obligations can be suffered if workers are made repetitive. Sometimes clean-up or reparation expenses can be activated if tasks are shut down. In such conditions, it might be less expensive to bring on offered minor earnings just surpass minor exp enses. If opponents are in this position then we are likely to experience great price stress from them. Design a costing system for use within an organization The current compensation technique provides for a potential flat-rate system, with features separated into categories by licensure, and then, excluding distinct-part stage B features, fellow categories by stage of care, regional area, and/or bed size. Rates for each classification and fellow group are depending on each facilitys yearly or financial period ending cost review. All revealed expenses are modified depending on audits of revealed expenses conducted by the Departments Audits and Research Program. The modified expenses are then estimated forward to the future amount year using various upgrade factors. Prime Cost- Prime cost includes costs of immediate components, immediate labors and immediate costs. It is also known as primary, first or smooth cost. Factory Cost- Factory cost consists of primary price and, in addition, performs or manufacturer running costs that include costs of oblique materials, oblique labors and oblique expenses suffered in a manufacturer. It is also known as performs price, production or production price. Office Cost- Office cost is the sum of office and management running costs and manufacturer price. This is also known as management price or the all inclusive costs of production. Total Cost- Selling and submission running costs are added to the all inclusive costs of production to get complete price or the price of sales. 1.2 Propose improvements to the costing and pricing systems used by an organization Costing systems are elements of a wider bookkeeping program used by a given company or company. The primary operate of the costing program is to keep a targeted eye on expenses made by the company. While the information that is gathered and produced by the costing program is also incorporated into the overall bookkeeping program, the costing strategy allows for easy eradication of the information for reviews to higher control. The information that generally is gathered by a charging program allows entrepreneurs and supervisors to quickly recognize the current position of two key aspects that are appropriate to the success of the company. Functional expenses are often the base of the information gathered by a charging program. Here, control is able to get a overview of all expenses that are straight linked with the common function of the company, especially with regards to development expenses. KAFCO Ltd. is using ABC costing and pricing. ABC means activity based costing. Which used overhead costs are tracked activities that consume resources, primarily for allocating overhead that is hard to track to specific products or departments. 2.1 Apply forecasting techniques to make cost and revenue decisions in an organization In KAFCO Ltd. they are using business forecasting methods. Company predicting methods depend on information-gathering activities relevant to the item or issue at hand. When used for the purpose of pattern research, the type of details collected decides the precision of any upcoming performance predictions. The danger of using pattern research as the only measure for upcoming performance occurs when supervisors platform their decision on the wrong types of details. For example, a development specialist may platform the chance of improves operating activity on past home revenue styles instead of on places proportional to his business, such as the variety of new building allows or the variety of new homes constructed in an area. Revenue, consumer demand and interest rate changes are some of the places where supervisors use pattern predicting to determine upcoming profits or failures made by a company. A pattern prediction determines previous performance based on a time series that charts specific points within a previous pattern. Tendency predicting may possibly analyze one or more parts, or elements, at a time. When more than one various is concerned, the use of cause and result aspects can help better determine the possibility of coming operation. For illustration, analyzing revenue styles in regards to consumer need and interest rate styles can provide a more accurate signal of upcoming efficiency than focusing completely on revenue tendencies. 2.2 Assess the sources of funds available to an organization for a specific project Despite all the differences among companies, there are only a few sources of funds available to all firms. They make benefit by promoting an item for more than it expenses to generate. This is the most primary resource of resources for any company and hopefully the technique that delivers in the most cash. Like people, organizations can take a loan. This can be done independently through loans, or it can be done openly through a financial debt problem. The disadvantage of credit cash is the interest that must be compensated to the lending company. An organization can produce cash by promoting part of itself in the form of stocks to traders, which is known as value financing. The benefit of this is that traders do not require charges like bondholders do. The disadvantage is that further earnings are separated among all investors. In a perfect world, an organization would bring in all of its cash simply by promoting products and services for a benefit. But, as the old saying goes, you have to spend money to produce income, and just about every organization has to increase resources at some point to create products and increase into new marketplaces. When analyzing organizations, it is most important to look at the stability of the significant resources of financing. For example, too much debt can get an organization into problems. However, an organization might be losing development leads if it doesnt use money that it can lend. 3.1 Select appropriate budgetary targets for an organization Budgeting focus on for Jim Smiths Business: Creating a benefit is the most important- some might say the only purpose of a company. Profit actions achievements. It can be described simply: Earnings Costs = Profit. So, to improve earnings you must improve revenues, reduced expenses, or both. To create upgrades you must know whats really going on economically at all periods. Recognize overarching techniques for improving revenue in your company. For example, you could: break into a new industry section by adjusting an current item for the market boost the normal selling per client. When developing your sales strategies, think about: your market segment your clients inspirations and expectations your potentiality to fulfill your clients objectives. Using promotion plan: Your promotion strategy views the industry your clients are in, and describes how you connect to that industry. Its techniques set out: the information you will communicate your products or services your promotion goals, resources and techniques. Your revenue strategy recognizes how you will strategy and offer to your clients. Your revenue strategy techniques set out: your strategy to gaining new customers your strategy to increase current client sales your strategy for accomplishing new objectives and increasing your benefit edge. 3.2 Participate in the creation of a master budget for an organization Your expert price range is a key part of your business-planning initiatives, but you may or may not want to consist of it in your published strategic strategy. For most of your viewers, your pro forma earnings declaration, approximated stability piece, and approximated cash-flow declaration will offer enough details about your upcoming financial situation. The expert price range you create for your organization allows you to do two very important things: Live within your means. Your expert price range summarizes your businesss expected sales, cost of products marketed, managing costs, investment costs, and income. By developing your businesss price range to position with your estimated income, you identify investing recommendations based on the most genuine financial image you have. The price range, of course, fills up in all the details. Use your money smartly. The expert price range allows you to keep investing in line with your strategic plan. That way, you spend resources in the most effective way possible to achieve organization long-term objectives. To get ready a price range, begin with duplicates of your estimated cash-flow claims for the next season or two, spending particular interest to the area that details where you anticipate to use cash. Then take each of the wide groups (cost of products acquired; revenue, common, and management expenses; structures and equipment; and withdrawals to owners) and make specific programs for each access, interpreting, for example, exactly how much cash your business should invest on a support or a device. 3.3 Compare actual expenditure and income to the master budget of an organization Mixing the income, immediate expenses and expenses allows you to get ready a monthly managing declaration. This information income and expenses (as does the benefit and loss), not invoices and expenses. It may neglect some items such as devaluation or bad financial obligations. It should, however, give a close approximation to the real benefit and reduction account. Each 30 days, you should evaluate your real performance with your prediction both for the 30 days and, preferably, for the year to date. If you have a computerized bookkeeping program, this will be a very simple process. Particularly note the gross profit margin. You will easily discover the benefit edge required to protect all your set expenses. Newsagents, for example, work on a edge of 16-22%; style stores might anticipate 40-50%; producers might aim for 60-80% based on the product. If the total benefit edge is dropping, it could be a hint of problems. Has wastefulness increased? Has the cost increased? Service companies with no, or very low, immediate expenses, will have a very high edge and may not discover this such a beneficial determine to look at. Instead, they might discover it employed to observe real sales and evaluate the determine with the per month crack even point. 3.4 Evaluate budgetary monitoring processes in an organization Good economical control techniques and procedures for monitoring source utilization are important for a division to create effective use of its sources. Effective preparing and economical control will help divisions to: ensure the effective and effective use of resources make audio business decisions demonstrate accountability take restorative activity where needed budgeting Primary expense is applicable to the yearly price range allowance from your Staff Pro Vice Chancellor for Educational Divisions or the Domain registrar and assistant for expert support divisions. When considering your departments core expenses for the season, the following aspects should be taken into account: your departments way of the season and how money will be implemented to provide the strategy other functional and organizational concerns such as earnings objectives and the decided expenses cap any current expenses responsibilities in repeated team costs the prioritization of actions in the department For the allowance of expenses costs, the appropriate stages may be informed by ancient expenses styles and any appropriate standards that have been determined or implemented. You should be careful of the management pressure associated with creating and confirming on cost centers with price range proportion of less than  £100. Consideration of cost management materiality stages will of course differ from division to division based on the size of the overall price range and the number of individuals definitely involved in the process of handling expenses against price range. 4.1 Recommend processes that could manage cost reduction in an organization Price decrease programs are arranged plans that have the objective of reducing the current level of costs suffered by an enterprise. With regards to a price decrease system for a business, the idea is to lower costs while keeping development levels, a process that eventually results in higher profits for the function. Houses may also practice a price decrease system as a means of ongoing to sensibly handle all per month costs, while take steps to reduce the amount of cost associated with versatile or varying costs. Creating a decrease system for a company includes looking carefully at each line product in the managing budget. Often, the system is arranged as a procedure that is applied in stages. For example, the first stage may include looking carefully at the price of the raw components used in development, and attempt to protect the same or similar components of equivalent quality at a reduced unit price. A second stage may address the issue of, identifying if there are some projects in the procedure that can be enhanced, improved, or removed completely. Last, the company may look at current distribution costs, and apply changes that reduced the price of distribution products to customers, while not affecting the performance and timeliness of those deliveries. Reducing expenses within any kind of business needs careful preparing before actually starting any stage of a price decrease program. This contains identifying possible results of each stage, and identifying what affect each of those c ircumstances would have on the overall function. If a given change in one stage is likely to cause to improving expenses in another place of the function, entrepreneurs and supervisors will want to figure out if going ahead with the changes will cause to overall price decrease, or simply move expenses from one place to another. Interesting in price decrease is more than simply making the benefit edge on a financial declaration look more eye-catching. At its best, a price decrease program makes a scenario where the available sources are used to best benefits, workers find themselves able to operate more effectively, and clients get the finest quality of products or services possible. The price reducing initiatives must make the process easier and more effective for all involved, as well as spend less. For example, if using different raw components decreases the price of the content, but outcomes in an improve of expenses, the attempt may cause to greater overall expenses for the operate, a shift that outcomes in reduced earnings for the company as well as improving the amount of work of the workers. Price decrease procedure may be- Provides an arranged strategy through chance recognition, solution growth and execution. Targets specific, considerable goals and watches their achievement. Gives one-to-one support to companies throughout the process. Transfers information to members to make sure durability of the price decrease action. The evaluation company costs bring a No Win No Fee unequivocal guarantee. 4.2 Evaluate the potential for the use of activity-based costing Activity-Based Costing (ABC) is a method of assigning expenses to goods and solutions. It is generally used as a device for planning and control. It was developed as an strategy to address problems associated with conventional spending budget system, that usually have the lack of ability to perfectly determine actual development and service expenses, or provide useful information for managing choices. With these defencies supervisors can come in contact with selection depending on incorrect data. The higher visibility is for companies with several goods and solutions. ABC allows supervisors to feature expenses to actions and products more perfectly than conventional cost bookkeeping methods. The actions accountable for the expenses can be determined and approved on to customers only when the products or services uses the action. Some of the advantages ABC offer is an enhanced means of determining high expenses per device and finding ways to reduce the expenses. The way it works is first major actions are determined in the process system. Next price regularly are created for groups of actions that can be assigned together. Following this price motorists are determined. The number of costs motorists used vary based on the balance between precision and complexness. After determining the price motorists, prices are determined. The prices are then applied to the specific price motorists for each products or services that is being considered. The expense price per unit is then derived by splitting the all inclusive costs for the item by the complete ite m units. One of the primary problems around ABC is the problems of execution. Determining actions or procedures to be assigned effectively is complicated and requires a lot of attempt. It needs that procedures are effectively planned throughout the organization. For a organization that has performed a excellent attempt, or an attempt to reengineer company procedures, a main issue with the work may already be finished. But for those who have not it is likely to be a significant challenge. Just as anything else, Activity-Based Charging is no remedy, nor should it be accepted as a religious belief, or a fad. It is a functional technique that needs to be properly analyzed for usefulness. The best way to technique the scenario is to first justify a service and its procedures, recognize the possibilities, and then contemplate a remedy. If this suits, use it. 5.1 Apply financial appraisal methods to analyze competing investment projects in the public and private sector Year Project A (Euro) Project B(Euro) 1 250 130 2 580 870 3 840 750 4 790 620 The companys cost of capital is 9%. Net Present Value = n*A/(1+r)t A= Cash flow r= required rate of return t= year of cash flow n= the nth year Project A, NPV for 1st year: 1*250/(1+0.09)1 = 229.35 Project B, NPV for 2nd year: 1*870/(1+0.09)2 = 399.82 Return On Investment = (Discounted Benefits Discounted Costs) / Discounted Costs Payback Period = Years taken to repay initial outlay . 5.2 Make a justified strategic investment decision for an organization using relevant financial information Ideal commitment making includes the procedure of determining, analyzing, and choosing among tasks that are likely to have an important effect on the company aggressive benefits. More particularly, the choice will affect what the company does, where it does it, and how it does it. The ideal commitment making process is probably one of mature management biggest difficulties. There is a crucial need to get these choices right. For on the one side, if the choice shows effective, the company reaps major ideal and functional advantages. However, should the choice be wrong, either an important opportunity is permanently missing by benefit of the company or it has unnecessarily thrown away significant source. Ideal financial commitment creating decisions has all the components of a traditional cost-benefit research. Accordingly, one might anticipate the process to be reinforced by a large and careful body of literary works. Amazingly this is not the case. As Shank (1996) points out, the four actions engaged to make strategic financial commitment strategies are badly protected in guides and get only partially better protection in the publications. Step one gets almost no interest in the official literary works suggestions just appear, somehow. Phase two gets nearly all the interest. Phase three is a stepchild, always made to feel accountable because it cant fit into 2nd. Phase four is presumed to circulation rationally out of 2nd. There is due concern for the soft problems in the 3rd, but choices, as described in guides, obtain mostly from the quantitative research. 5.3 Report on the appropriateness of a strategic investment decision using information from a post-audit appraisal The objective of the query was to design clear and objective requirements for the selection and continuing evaluation of superannuation resources qualified for nomination as standard resources in modern prizes. In considering these requirements, the terms of referrals mentioned that the Percentage could have respect to the: Appropriateness of the financial commitment technique of the standard financial commitment choice of the finance with regards to danger and predicted return. Medium to long lasting net-of-costs financial commitment performance of the standard financial commitment option. Level of charges suffered by members. Scale of the finance and the stage of services offered to invest in members. Suitability and cost of insurance offered by the fund. Governance of the fund. Fees suffered and other effects on associates if they stop career with an employer. 6.1 Analyze financial statements to assess the financial viability of an organization All the best-laid ideal programs are topic to money. Look at the approximated costs and the prospective income. This evaluation allows you make choices about when to apply certain activity items and whether your cash expenditure produces the required income to fulfill your financial targets. As with every business, costs are never big enough to do everything you want to do. A company can be regarded an economical achievements when it does the following: Stays in the dark and changes a profit Has a stability sheet Generates excellent money flow Produces a excellent revenue (ROI) for its shareholders Getting economical success begins with an economical evaluation that is based on traditional history and upcoming forecasts. By looking at the past to help strategy and estimate the long run, you can gain much better control over your businesss economical performance. A good operating strategy gives you a specific image of the economical health of your business and the stability of your ideal strategy. It also helps you know whether you are getting off track during execution so you can take action before anything serious happens like running out of cash. To perform an economical evaluation of your ideal plan, take the following steps: Estimate income and costs. Conduct a participation research to figure out whether your techniques favorably give rise to the main point here. Combine all your figures in a one-year and three-year economical projector. The cold reality is that you are in company to generate income. If you are not making a comeback (ROI) at some point, you dont have a business; you have an expensive activity. Your financial evaluation indicates with a research on your ROI. After all, theres no sense in applying a strategy if it will not generate the desired come back. As an owner, you are either investing in or illustrating out of your company. If you are investing for growth, you ought to have a clearly described repayment period and ideal strategy to get you through it as fast as possible. 6.2 Apply financial ratios to improve the quality of financial information in an organizations financial statements Economical percentages are tools for decoding fiscal reports to provide a basis for pricing investments and evaluating financial and management performance. A good financial specialist will build in financial rate computations substantially in financial modelling exercise to enable robust analysis. Economical percentages allow financial specialist to: Standardize details from fiscal reports across multiple economical years to allow evaluation of a companys performance over time in a business design. Standardize details from fiscal reports from different companies to allow an celery to celery evaluation between companies of differing size in a business design. Measure key connections by relating information (costs) with results (benefits) and facilitates evaluation of these connections over time and across companies in a business design. Profitability- One method used to determine the organizations economical wellness views the success of the organization. Users calculate success percentages, such as the benefit edge or the earnings per discuss. The benefit edge separates the net earnings by total sales, both numbers that come from the earnings statement. Earnings per discuss split net earnings by the variety of stocks of typical inventory excellent. The variety of stocks of typical inventory excellent appears on the balance sheet. The benefit generated by the organization each year increases the maintained earnings and stockholders equity for the organization. This improves the organizations economical wellness. Trending- Another method used for determining economical wellness involves the use of popular. Trending refers to determining economical ratios for several time times and comparing those time times. For example, if the user calculates the earnings per share for 2008, 2009 and 2010, he can determine if the company is generating more earnings for stockholders recently than in the past. Higher earnings generation recently indicates that the companys economical wellness is growing each year. 6.3 Make recommendations on the strategic portfolio of an organization based on its financial information Profile management offers a technique for decision-makers to assess resource domain portfolios, assess the chance of conference goals and link the gap between goals and the results obtainable under the current strategy. Many sectors already use these methods to reach their goals for Long-term growth. The one study found that when organizations implemented a profile strategy, their concentrate moved from temporary to lengthy lasting. Instead of position next seasons benefit goals as most important in the planning process, the top position went to long-range benefit goals. Some organizations arrive at the profile control level quickly, within about three years, while others take longer. In all cases, a powerful dedication from top control is the key to fast execution, and success is based on working with management and business the process of the profile control strategy. The net existing value (NPV) displaying good value so this Series venture should be approved and if we consider Total benefit and price to revenue rate are also displaying good principles so we can say that its the best chance at that some time to the net benefit will improve in next season considerably, because revenue will also improve. The profile viewpoint a crucial link between technique and financial commitment options for the groups that take the perspective of achievements described by top management and generate result. When an company performs a venture, it commits to an financial commitment of money, work and sources. Some of these financial commitment strategies are quite significant. It is amazing, therefore, that many companies stay inactive traders, making the achievements, failing and greatest return of their financial commitment strategies to chance. Most professional investors, such as stock investors, are not content to sit on the side lines. They want to definitely handle their investment strategies to generate the biggest share of benefits over time. By improving, controlling and constantly fine-tuning their domain portfolios, effective investors try to increase short and long-term profits and reduce overall risk, thereby accomplishing larger financial and/or business goals. Like the specialized trader, companies and their IT companies can definitely manage their domain investment portfolios to draw out greater profits. They can recognize, assess and position financial commitment possibilities. They can direct resources to the highest-payback tasks and cull minor ones. They can focus on expenses more successfully to the most beneficial tasks and improve their performance and performance.

Custer :: essays research papers

Custer’s Last Stand The Tragedy of Little Bighorn is such a tale for over a hundred years. This is one of the most startling defeats in the Military history. More than two hundred cavalrymen were killed in battle on June 25, 1876. Is General Custer to blame for all this mishap with the loss of his troopers including himself? Who was the real person to blame? The details aren’t fully covered in the mystery of what happened at Little Bighorn. The Europeans came to battle with the Indians to conquer the North American land that hundreds of Indian nations had lived on for thousands of years before the Europeans arrived. The Indians chief, Sitting Bull was a great military, political, and spiritual leader. He had a vision that the whites were going to battle with them. So the Indians were ready for battle. Who knows what would have happened if Sitting Bull didn’t get his visions. Would they be prepared? Would they have lost more men then they already did? It was a big concern to go to battle because of the loss of his people, but he knew that they were going to be successful with the challenge. The Europeans didn’t care about the Indians. â€Å"Everywhere that Indians live the whites speak of them as lazy, living off the Federal Government, drinking up their dole. It is essentially the same view of the Indian that prevailed in the seventeenth century.† This means that the whites felt strongly about the Indians not caring or being willing to pay for the natural resources that they were using up. All the whites cared about was the value of the land and the natural precious gold’s that came with it. General Custer and his men had been traveling for on going days without food and water. Lack of energy might have been the case for most of Custer’s’ men’s deaths including himself. Fresh trails were reported and on June 25th an Indian village twenty miles above the mouth of the little horn was reported about three miles long and half a mile wide and fifteen miles away. Custer pushed his command rapidly though they had made a march of seventy-eight miles in twenty-four hours preceding the battle when near the village it was discovered that the Indians were moving in hot haste as if retreating. Reno with seven companies of the seventh cavalry was ordered to the left to attack the village at its head while Custer with five companies went to the right and commenced a vigorous attack.

Muralism and the Cosmic Affect

03/17/13 Muralism and The Cosmic Race In the Cosmic Race written by Jose Vasconcelo, Vasconcelo writes about the definition of Latin American people and their divine mission in America, while also briefly comparing them to other races such as the Europeans. Vasconcelo states that there are 4 racial trunks, the Blacks, the Indians, the Mongols, and the Whites, while expanding detail with the Whites who he described as organizing themselves in Europe, and becoming invaders of the rest of the world.Vasconcelo gives an example as the Spaniards conquered Latin American, however he believes that their role was just to reintegrate the red world, which he describes as a bridge which has brought the world to a state at which all human types and cultures can fuse together. According to Vasconcelo the faithful Latin-people are those called upon to this divine mission after they have gained freedom. It is safe to say Vasconcelo easily inspired and influenced several aspects of Diego Riveraâ€⠄¢s artwork. While Mexico was under similar circumstances after the Mexican Revolution as Latin America, Deigo Rivera used some of Jose Vasconcelo’s ideas to impart social and political messages. In Diego Rivera’s â€Å"El Hombre en Cruco de Caminos† located in Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, one can see a man who appears to be in control of the Universe with a variety of people in the backgrounds. At one point Vasconcelo states that every ascending race needs to constitute its own philosophy to get to its own success, rather than just learn and copy from the others. This idea is expressed in Rivera’s Mural by the man in the middle who is controlling what seems to be the entire universe. It seems that both of these men understood the ideathat it was time to control themselves. Although Diego was focused on the â€Å"spiritual† liberation of Mexico from its Colonial obsession, the idea of creating and controlling your own ideology and destiny is shared by Rivera’s painting and Vasconcelo’s, The Cosmic Race.

Mermaid Purse vs. Skate Case

Mermaid Purse vs. Skate Case Perhaps youve found a mermaids purse on the beach. Mermaids purses blend really well with seaweed, so you may also have walked right by one. Upon further investigation, you can learn more about what they are. The enchantingly named structures are the egg cases of skates and some sharks. This is why they are also known as skate cases. While some sharks bear live young, some sharks (and all skates) release their embryos in leathery egg cases that have horns and sometimes long tendrils at each corner. The tendrils allow them to anchor to seaweeds or other substrates. Each egg case contains one embryo. The case is made up of a material that is a combination of collagen and keratin, so a dried egg case feels similar to a fingernail.   In some areas, such as in the Bering Sea, skates seem to lay these eggs in nursery areas.  Depending on the species and sea conditions, the embryo may take weeks, months or even years to fully develop. When they hatch out of one end, the baby animals look like miniature versions of their skate or shark parents.   If you find a mermaids purse on the beach or are lucky enough to see a live one in the wild or in an aquarium, look closely if the developing skate or shark is still alive, you may be able to see it wiggling around.  You also may be able to see it if you shine a light through one side. The egg cases on the beach are often light and already opened, which means the animal inside has already hatched and left the egg case.   Where to Find a Mermaids Purse Mermaids purses usually get washed or blown to the high tide line of the beach, and they often get wrapped up in (and blend in well with) seaweeds and shells. As youre walking along the beach, walk in the area where shells and ocean debris seems to have washed up, and you might be lucky enough to find a mermaids purse. You may be more likely to find one after a storm.   Mermaids Purse Identification Found a mermaids purse on the beach and want to know where it is from?  Skate and shark species vary by region, but there are some identification guides out there for you beachcombers wanting to identify your finds. Here are the ones Ive found so far: Egg Cases of Alaska (great pamphlet about where baby skates come from)Shark Trust Egg Case Identification Key (UK) Conservation Factors To learn about population sizes and reproduction, some organizations have launched citizen science efforts to have people report and send in egg cases they find on the beach. The First Job Professor Ramos Blog

The First Job I got my first job at a sportswear store in the Cabazon Outlet Mall. I was very nervous and excited on my first day. I wore my uniform, which was any appropriate shirt with the store’s logo, and black pants. I was trained on my first day. I had to walk around the store and ask the costumers if they needed help finding anything. I also had to keep the women’s section clean and presentable. I was also in charge of the fitting rooms. I walked up to a lady with brunette hair and a mole on her cheek. I asked her, â€Å"are you finding everything okay?† She was looking at the rain coats and asked me, â€Å"what is Omni-Wick?† I felt my heart stop as I stared at her completely confused. â€Å"Excuse me,† she said. She looked at me as if she was trying to â€Å"revive† me with her eyes. â€Å"Oh, the Omni-Wick.† For some weird reason my head instantly thought Under Armor. â€Å"it works like armor. It protects you from the rain and keeps you fully dry.† â€Å"oh, that’s great! Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you.† she said as she smiled and walked away. It just sounded like it made sense I mean, it was a rain coat. I told my supervisor, Carlos, he was very nice and supportive. He looked at me and smiled. â€Å"Omni- Wick means it is drying.† he said has he chuckled. I was completely embarrassed and red like a tomato. ‘It’s okay, I was confused also on my first day. † He pulled out a little booklet from the drawer behind the registers. It had all the Omni- Technology listed with pictures. He gave it to me and told me to look over it. I looked over it and carried it around my pocket. I studied it every time I could. I was very insecure to approach customers after I gave my first customer incorrect information. I spent most of my day at the fitting rooms. I let customers in the fitting rooms and keep track of what they brought in. I had to put away all the â€Å"go backs† in the right places and keep an eye on the fitting rooms. My co-workers were great at helping the customers. I wanted to be like them, experts in customer service and Omni- Technology. I asked Luis, my co-worker, about the Omni-Wick shirts. â€Å"Omni-Wick shirts evaporate your sweat quicker than a regular shirt. They also dry faster after washing. Perfect for when your outdoors.† I was impressed. He knew exactly what it was. â€Å"can you teach me about the technologies. At least the most common ones.† I said helping him fold the men’s graphic t-shirts. â€Å"sure, we can go over them on our break.† he said while displaying the shirts on the table. â€Å"thank you. I really appreciate it.† I was determined to learn the technologies. I wanted to successes at my job. My manager, Hollie, came up to me and asked me how I was doing. I didn’t tell her about my encounter with my first customer. â€Å"I’m doing great! Luis is going to teach me about the technologies on our break.† â€Å"That’s great! It is good to ask help from your co-workers that makes us great team. Let me know if you have any questions.† â€Å"I will, thanks Hollie.† she walked away to a customer that caught her attention by the registers. As I worked at the fitting rooms, I noticed there was an elderly man having trouble looking at the pants size of a pair of shorts. I went up to him and asked him if he needed any help with anything. He told me he was having trouble looking for his size. I helped him find his size of the pair of shorts he wanted. He was very pleased with my customer service and complimented me to my supervisor Carlos. I felt proud of myself. I made an old man’s day by helping him find his size. It was a great feeling and I wanted to feel that every day when I came into work. I was determined to learn more and help our customers. When it was time for my break I sat in the break room with Luis to study the Technologies. â€Å"the most common Technologies are; Omni- Wick, Omni- Heat, Omni- Freeze, and Omni- Shade. Omni- Wick evaporates sweat to keep you dry and it dries fast after you wash it. Omni- Heat is on all of the jackets in the store. Omni-heat has tiny foil-like spots that retain and regulate your body temperature.† he then showed me the inside of his jacket that had Omni- Heat. I was very impressed with the material. It was literary like wrapping yourself in aluminum foil. â€Å"Omni- Freeze helps you stay cool when you sweat.† he took an Omni- Freeze shirt and sprayed it with water. â€Å"go ahead, feel it.† as I touched the shirt it felt as if he just took it out of the fridge. It was very cool. â€Å"Omni-Shade is the last most common one. It is on all the shirts. It is like sun screen. It protects you from uv rays by absorbing and reflecting. These are the most common Technol ogies. If you know these Technologies like the back of your hand, you’ll be okay. They are on all the apparel. Except when people do online returns. Those sometimes have different Technologies.† A week later, I was closing the store with Hollie and a young woman came up to me and asked me for help. â€Å"what can I help you with?† I asked her. â€Å"I need something to were on top of my bathing suit when I go surfing.† she told me. she was going to Puerto Rico for a wedding. I helped her pick out a thin long sleeve shirt that had Omni-Shade. â€Å"this long sleeve has the Omni-Shade Technology which protects you from uv rays. It works just like sunscreen.† â€Å"wow, that’s so cool, just like sunscreen!† she thanked me and brought the long sleeve. She was our last customer that day. Hollie locked the door and we went to the office to count the money. She told me we had a secret shopper that week and our customer service was being tested. I was surprised and asked myself if it was any of the customers I helped that week. On Monday when I came into work everyone kept telling me â€Å"good job† and â€Å"how did I know,† I was completely confused. Carlos came up to me and told me I scored a hundred percent for our secret shop. i was proud of myself. i thanked Luis for helping me learn the Omni- Technologies. Sexual Transmitted Infection Prevention in Adolescents Essay

Sexual Transmitted Infection Prevention in Adolescents - Essay Example These could include family planning clinics, sex workers and gynecologists. STIs are very commonly found amongst most women suffering from sexual assault. Little data on men has been found. STIs put men and women especially to considerable risk. There is a huge lack of awareness and dearth of information available to these people at large. Most young women are most concerned about pregnancy prevention than STI transmission. There is a lack of concern and negligicence towards the seriousness of this matter that makes it an all the more important issue to address. STIs can lead to cancer, organ damage, pregnancy issues and even death. Thus it is important for health agencies to look into it. The definition of adolescence has been subjected to intense debate and argument over the course of last couple of years. In the 1950s it was thought that adolescent should be best considered to be the period of transitioning other literature defines it in terms of the words â€Å"young† and â€Å"youth†. However, the term young adult was also introduced recently. The treatment of adolescence has varied in different parts of the world. It is different in the west and different in the east. For instance in India, many girls have pre-arranged marriages before they hit their first menstruation. As soon as they hit get their first periods, they are married off at ages as young as 16 years. This increases the probability of STI transmission in them. On the contrary, in the west, marriage does not materialize till really long. Girls there are subjected to consummation with different people at different phases of their life. There are no ethical obligations to restricting sex to one partner. Hence, all this makes it very difficult to come up with a universal STI prevention transmission program for health agencies. There are various barriers to prevention and treatment of STIs amongst adolescents. The biggest problem associated with STI control is considered to be the as ymptomatic nature of the infections caused by STI. The infections remain invisible in many young girls in particular till some severe sequels. In some settings the proportion of infections that are rated as asymptotic may even be even higher because many women would consider them to be â€Å"normal†. The only viable way of detecting asymptomatic infections is via the use of laboratory test. In some resource poor settings, this is impeded by the fact that the tests are not just difficult to perform they are even expensive. Even more difficult is obtaining tissue samples for these tests as they are less likely to be accepted without them. The adoption of these tests is perpetually impossible in most developing countries like India. This is because they are very expensive to conduct and obtain there. More than half the population, lives below the poverty belt which makes it impossible for them to afford such tests. Another important reason behind the failure of STI transmission prevention is the fact that most adolescents don’t consider it to be an issue important enough. It is only HIV which is considered to be important by these young adult and hence, this topic is at an all time low priority for them. Adolescent girls tend to be more cautious about preventing pregnancy and their menstrual problems then about their STI problems. For the boys on the other hand, sexual health concern outride reproductive health ones. A study was recently conducted in Zimbabwe. The study unveiled

Recruitment, Training and Selection Questionnaire Essay

Recruitment, Training and Selection Questionnaire - Essay Example This section therefore seeks to create a questionnaire based on all the objectives as was mentioned in chapter 1. In light of that, the section will come up with a collection of 10-15 questions in a questionnaire specified to highlight the company position on selection, training and recruitment. The content of the questions will seek to exploit the three aims and objectives as stipulated earlier on as well as verifying the statement of purpose. There will also be an analytical look at the questionnaire through a discussion and relation to the obtained objectives and discussions. Variables of success will be discussed based on the analysis as obtained from the analysis and in relationship with the universal conducts as stipulated in Human Resource management. This will give rise to the findings that are supposed to be implemented by the company. Questionnaire-The Recruitment, Selection and Training of LVMH As stated, the questionnaire will make a focus on the important areas of study. The questionnaire will gauge whether the employees were recruited through a competitive selection process or whether there were any intermediaries in the whole process. After being hired, what specific types of training are done, if any and what values are added to the employees in these trainings. There is also a test on the effects of new technology on the employees in improving the productivity of the company. The employee response to the satisfaction achieved as a result of adapting the trainings received as well as the motivation that is added to their valuable human resource ability (Jeffrey, 2011 ). As a result of the data collected from such surveys, the human resource department is able to collect information that will be used in the formulation of policies. These policies will be used to rectify the weaknesses that may be involved in low performance at that stage in the company. This questionnaire is based on an interview carried out on a sample of 30 employees of LVMH Co mpany representation. The same questionnaire was administered on employees from the different departments and the aim was to get the effectiveness of the process of recruitment, training and selection of all employees regardless of the company position. The questionnaire was carried out in France, headquarter of the company. This is because of the high representation of employees in the country. The country does not also have a uniform human resource endowment based on the classes of people and the results will therefore be a possible representation of all the regions of presence. Based on the information needed, the focus was both on primary and secondary data. The secondary data was collected from academic journals, books and other online sources that were relevant to the study. The primary data was collected from direct association with employees and they were to answer closed ended questions (Jeffrey, 2011 ). A collection of 14 questions collected from 30 respondents therefore b ecomes the basis of this chapter. The questionnaire that was conducted took the form of the questions below: 1. How was your potentiality and eventual recruitment to this company generated? Through; a) Direct applications b) Placement consultants c) Job portals d) Employee referrals e) Head hunting f) Any other (please specify) 2. How many rounds of technical interviews were carried out on you? a) 1 b) 2 c) 3 d) More than 3 3. Did you get any buddy mentor who helped you adapt

Organizational ledership at the Huffington Post Essay

Organizational ledership at the Huffington Post - Essay Example The researcher states that Arianna Huffington currently serves as President and Editor-in-Chief of The Huffington Post Media Group, which following the acquisition of her website in 2011 by AOL, includes responsibility for a number of associated online properties owned by the multi-media conglomerate. Huffington’s leadership and organization ability was clearly recognized by AOL at the time of the acquisition, and she appears to have taken on even more responsibility at the new company than she had when The Huffington Post was independent. Arianna Huffington recently became embroiled in a media turmoil related to corporate management at AOL when she effectively fired Michael Arrington, the editor and founder of the popular ‘TechCrunch’ blog which had also been acquired by AOL. Despite the widespread acknowledgement of Arrington’s conflict of interest in publishing stories on venture capital themes and start-up companies in which he was also to lead investme nt in, many analysts were surprised more by the apparent power that Huffington had acquired within AOL itself in corporate management. Arianna Huffington’s rise to power, wealth, and fame spans 60 years from her birth in Greece, education at Cambridge, and activism in conservative Republican causes for her husband in the 1980’s, to running for governor of California in the 1990’s and founding The Huffington Post in 2005. She is widely regarded to have changed the way news in published, read, and discussed with her blog and social network driven website. A review of Arianna Huffington’s life and organizational leadership style depict a portrait of an extremely powerful, well connected, and successful woman who has achieved a position of strength in America’s cultural, political, and corporate environments that few other figures in history have achieved. 2) The Current Situation of the Huffington Post The AOL Company of today, led by CEO Tim Armstron g, is a vastly different organization than the original â€Å"America Online† company that merged with Time-Warner in 2000 under the direction of CEO Steve Case. The AOL merger has become a case study in business management and is seen as one of the worst corporate management mistakes of all time. AOL emerged as the gateway to the internet for millions of first time users in the late 1990’s through its telephone-based ISP services. It has since come to be seen as one of the leading examples of the â€Å"dotcom† era, the huge speculative frenzy that coincided with the initial internet boom in the stock market. (Case, 2011) At the time of the merger in 2000, AOL had a market value of around $163 billion dollars, and was considered on equal standing with the media giant Time-Warner in value based on market capitalization. (Johnson, 2000) Nine years later, Time-Warner â€Å"spun-off† AOL from its business organization, as a new company with a second IPO, and its market capitalization was just over $3 billion dollars. (Bavdek, 2009) AOL’s dial-up based ISP business had been made nearly redundant by advances in broadband, wireless, and mobile technologies. What remains unclear is why the Time-Warner-AOL merger failed so badly, in that management was unable to bring any value from the venture or integration between all of the media channels, internet sites, and cable networks brought together under the single company organization. Instead, a staggering $160 billion dollars of market capitalization was lost or squandered by the deal through corporate managem

Critique of Pure Reason Essay Example for Free

Critique of Pure Reason Essay Immanuel Kant, (born April 22, 1724, Konigsberg, Prussia [now Kaliningrad, Russia]—died February 12, 1804, Konigsberg), German philosopher whose comprehensive and systematic work in epistemology (the theory of knowledge), ethics, and aesthetics greatly influenced all subsequent philosophy, especially the various schools of Kantianism and idealism. Kant was one of the foremost thinkers of the Enlightenment and arguably one of the greatest philosophers of all time. In him were subsumed new trends that had begun with the rationalism (stressing reason) of Rene Descartes and the empiricism (stressing experience) of Francis Bacon. He thus inaugurated a new era in the development of philosophical thought. BACKGROUND AND EARLY YEARS Kant lived in the remote province where he was born for his entire life. His father, a saddler, was, according to Kant, a descendant of a Scottish immigrant, although scholars have found no basis for this claim; his mother, an uneducated German woman, was remarkable for her character and natural intelligence. Both parents were devoted followers of the Pietist branch of the Lutheran church, which taught that religion belongs to the inner life expressed in simplicity and obedience to moral law. The influence of their pastor made it possible for Kant—the fourth of nine children but the eldest surviving child—to obtain an education. At the age of eight Kant entered the Pietist school that his pastor directed. This was a Latin school, and it was presumably during the eight and a half years he was there that Kant acquired his lifelong love for the Latin classics, especially for the naturalistic poet Lucretius. In 1740 he enrolled in the University of Konigsberg as a theological student. But, although he attended courses in theology and even preached on a few occasions, he was principally attracted to mathematics and physics. Aided by a young professor who had studied Christian Wolff, a systematizer of rationalist philosophy, and who was also an enthusiast for the science of Sir Isaac Newton, Kant began reading the work of the English physicist and, in 1744, started his first book, Gedanken von der wahren Schatzung der lebendigen Krafte (1746; Thoughts on the True Estimation of Living Forces), dealing with a problem concerning kinetic forces. Though by that time he had decided to pursue an academic career, the death of his father in 1746 and his failure to obtain the post of undertutor in one of the schools attached to the university compelled him to withdraw and seek a means of supporting himself. Tutor and Privatdozent He found employment as a family tutor and, during the nine years that he gave to it, worked for three different families. With them he was introduced to the influential society of the city, acquired social grace, and made his farthest travels from his native city—some 60 miles (96 km) away to the town of Arnsdorf. In 1755, aided by the kindness of a friend, he was able to complete his degree at the university and take up the position of Privatdozent, or lecturer. Period of the three Critiques In 1781 the Kritik der reinen Vernunft (spelled Critik in the first edition; Critique of Pure Reason) was published, followed for the next nine years by great and original works that in a short time brought a revolution in philosophical thought and established the new direction in which it was to go in the years to come. The Critique of Pure Reason The Critique of Pure Reason was the result of some 10 years of thinking and meditation. Yet, even so, Kant published the first edition only reluctantly after many postponements; although convinced of the truth of its doctrine, he was uncertain and doubtful about its exposition. His misgivings proved well founded, and Kant complained that interpreters and critics of the work were badly misunderstanding it. To correct these wrong interpretations of his thought, he wrote the Prolegomena zu einer jeden kunftigen Metaphysik die als Wissenschaft wird auftreten konnen (1783; Prolegomena to Any Future Metaphysics That Will be Able to Come Forward as Science) and brought out a second and revised edition of the first Critique in 1787. Controversy still continues regarding the merits of the two editions: readers with a preference for an idealistic interpretation usually prefer the first edition, whereas those with a realistic view adhere to the second. But with regard to difficulty and ease of reading and understanding, it is generally agreed that there is little to choose between them. Anyone on first opening either book finds it overwhelmingly difficult and impenetrably obscure. The Critique of Practical Reason Because of his insistence on the need for an empirical component in knowledge and his antipathy to speculative metaphysics, Kant is sometimes presented as a positivist before his time, and his attack upon metaphysics was held by many in his own day to bring both religion and morality down with it. Such, however, was certainly far from Kant’s intention. Not only did he propose to put metaphysics â€Å"on the sure path of science,† he was prepared also to say that he â€Å"inevitably† believed in the existence of God and in a future life. It is also true that his original conception of his critical philosophy anticipated the preparation of a critique of moral philosophy. The Kritik der praktischen Vernunft (1788, spelled Critik and practischen; Critique of Practical Reason), the result of this intention, is the standard sourcebook for his ethical doctrines. The earlier Grundlegung zur Metaphysik der Sitten (1785; Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals) is a shorter and, despite its title, more readily comprehensible treatment of the same general topic. Both differ from Die Metaphysik der Sitten (1797; The Metaphysics of Morals) in that they deal with pure ethics and try to elucidate basic principles; the later work, in contrast, is concerned with applying these principles in the concrete, a process that involved the consideration of virtues and vices and the foundations of law and politics. The Critique of Judgment The Kritik der Urteilskraft (1790, spelled Critik; Critique of Judgment)—one of the most original and instructive of all of Kant’s writings—was not foreseen in his original conception of the critical philosophy. Thus it is perhaps best regarded as a series of appendixes to the other two Critiques. The work falls into two main parts, called respectively Critique of Aesthetic Judgment and Critique of Teleological Judgment. In the first of these, after an introduction in which he discussed â€Å"logical purposiveness,† he analyzed the notion of â€Å"aesthetic purposiveness† in judgments that ascribe beauty to something. Such a judgment, according to him, unlike a mere expression of taste, lays claim to general validity, yet it cannot be said to be cognitive because it rests on feeling, not on argument. The explanation lies in the fact that, when a person contemplates an object and finds it beautiful, there is a certain harmony between his imagination and his understanding, of which he is aware from the immediate delight that he takes in the object. Imagination grasps the object and yet is not restricted to any definite concept, whereas a person imputes the delight that he feels to others because it springs from the free play of his cognitive faculties, which are the same in all humans. LAST YEARS The critical philosophy was soon being taught in every important German-speaking university, and young men flocked to Konigsberg as a shrine of philosophy. In some cases the Prussian government even undertook the expense of their support. Kant came to be consulted as an oracle on all kinds of questions, including such subjects as the lawfulness of vaccination. Such homage did not interrupt Kant’s regular habits. Scarcely five feet tall, with a deformed chest, and suffering from weak health, he maintained throughout his life a severe regimen. It was arranged with such regularity that people set their clocks according to his daily walk along the street named for him, â€Å"The Philosopher’s Walk. † Until old age prevented him, he is said to have missed this regular appearance only on the occasion when Rousseau’s Emile so engrossed him that for several days he stayed at home. From 1790 Kant’s health began to decline seriously. He still had many literary projects but found it impossible to write more than a few hours a day. The writings that he then completed consist partly of an elaboration of subjects not previously treated in any detail, partly of replies to criticisms and to the clarification of misunderstandings. With the publication in 1793 of his work Die Religion innerhalb der Grenzen der blossen Vernunft (Religion Within the Limits of Reason Alone), Kant became involved in a dispute with Prussian authorities on the right to express religious opinions. The book was found to be altogether too rationalistic for orthodox taste. He was charged with misusing his philosophy to the â€Å"distortion and depreciation of many leading and fundamental doctrines of sacred Scripture and Christianity† and was required by the government not to lecture or write anything further on religious subjects. Kant agreed but privately interpreted the ban as a personal promise to the king, Frederick William II, from which he felt himself to be released on the latter’s death in 1797. At any rate, he returned to the forbidden subject in his last major essay, â€Å"Der Streit der Fakultaten† (1798; â€Å"The Conflict of the Faculties†). In 1797 Kant published Die Metaphysik der Sitten (The Metaphysics of Morals), comprising Metaphysische Anfangsgrunde der Rechtslehre (The Philosophy of Law) and Metaphysische Anfangsgrunde der Tugendlehre (The Doctrine of Virtue). The former was the major statement of his political philosophy, which he also discussed in Zum ewigen Frieden (1795; Project for a Perpetual Peace) and in the essay â€Å"Uber den Gemeinspruch: Das mag in der Theorie richtig sein, taugt aber nicht fur die Praxis† (1793; â€Å"On the Old Saw: That May Be Right In Theory, But It Won’t Work in Practice†). The large work at which he laboured until his death—the fragments of which fill the two final volumes of the great Berlin edition of his works—was evidently intended to be a major contribution to his critical philosophy. What remains, however, is not so much an unfinished work as a series of notes for a work that was never written. Known as the Opus postumum, its original title was Ubergang von den metaphysische Anfangsgrunde der Naturwissenschaft zur Physik (â€Å"Transition from the Metaphysical Foundations of Natural Science to Physics†). It may have been Kant’s intention in this work to carry further the argument advanced in the Metaphysische Anfangsgrunde der Naturwissenschaft (1786; Metaphysical Foundations of Natural Science) by showing that it is possible to construct a priori not merely the general outline of a science of nature but a good many of its details as well. But judging from the extant fragments, however numerous they are, it remains conjectural whether its completion would have constituted a major addition to his philosophy and its reputation. After a gradual decline that was painful to his friends as well as to himself, Kant died in Konigsberg on February 12, 1804. His last words were â€Å"Es ist gut† (â€Å"It is good†). His tomb in the cathedral was inscribed with the words (in German) â€Å"The starry heavens above me and the moral law within me,† the two things that he declared in the conclusion of the second Critique â€Å"fill the mind with ever new and increasing admiration and awe, the oftener and the more steadily we reflect on. † IMMANUEL KANT Prepared by: Cherry B.
