The Motivation Of Employees Are Only Motivated By Money

Employees are only motivated by money Critically evaluate the theories of motivation in relation to this statement. Motivation is a hugely important aspect in the lives of working people, generally. It gives people the will to keep going, and at the same time, allows them to work towards something, and have something to aim for. Whilst money is a well received incentive to help keep employees on task, it is often thought of as the only motivator. Employees react well to a number of motivational incentives, with money being only one of them. Money plays an important role in our society and always has. It therefore acts as a very powerful tool to keep employees - and people generally - motivated at work. It is thought of as an aspiration by many young people, something to be achieved; to be rich or, at least to be comfortable in their future finances. There is also an underlying theme amongst young people wanting to be self dependant, not dependant on their parents for money. This, again, leads to the dream of having money in order to be self sufficient, with this idea motivating them to be more committed in school and other aspects of life. The fact that money is such a huge part of the society we live in, may be the reason for these contributing factors towards motivation. However, the statement Employees are only motivated by money can be debated, with many theories and studies to contradict the idea that money is the only motivator for employees. The Abandoned Colony by Karen Ordahl Kupperman - 914 Words

Thesis: The Roanoke colony proved to be an unsuccessful venture in the New World for England, since leaders of the expedition held the viewpoint that privateering would prove to be the most profitable aspect of founding the new settlements in the West. However future, still unsuccessful attempts to make a permanent colony at Roanoke, helped England understand how to build a prosperous one; and it became a building block for establishing future colonies for England and helped shape the ideas that would help launch their empire. Summary: This book starts well before Roanoke was founded. It detailed how, at the time, England was not a superpower. Spain and France were the most dominant of the European countries, but internal conflicts in†¦show more content†¦They had a strange relationship, since many of the colonists respected the Indian’s way of life and were amazed by how they lived. Many attributed their strength to the tobacco that they consumed. Others saw them as savages and wanted to convert them to the European way of life. The colonists ended up waging war with them and killed some Croatoans. White went back to England to request supplies, and when he came back, the colony was abandoned, with evidence that they joined the Croatoans. â€Å"CRO† was written on a tree, a sign that the colonists left to tell him where they had gone. However, they were to carve a cross over the name if they were forced to vacate, but there was no such mark. An entrance post also had the word  "Croatoan† carved into it, also without any crosses. Big items like weapons were left behind, but all smaller supplies were gone. The book uses Professor David Quinn’s theory to explain what happened. The bulk of the colony moved to the Chesapeake Bay and lived in peace while the rest stayed behind to guard the heavier equipment. However, the Spanish threat and Indian hostility forced them to leave. They were the ones who left the notes. Rumors continued to spin when Indians told stories to the people of Jamestown in the Chesapeake Bay about whites living with the Indians. Rap Vs Poetry Essay Research Paper Example For Students

Rap Vs Poetry Essay Research Paper When I first started rapping, me and a couple brothers would all sit around my place freestyling while someone beat boxed. I even used to tell all the girls that I was a poet. They seemed to find it a little more touching than a rapper (Prince Paul, The Source 16) The lyrics of rappers are very similar to the words of Black poets. It is argued as to wether or not rap is a viable form of poetry. Both discuss similar subjects, write in the same style and use the same type of language in their writings. When looking at a poem or reading rap lyrics, distinguishing between the two can be difficult, if not impossible. Both Black rappers and Black poets write about the same subjects. For example the rap group NWA, and the poet Alice Walker, both cover the topic of being from a minority race. Alice Walker states in one of her poems that there is no planet stranger than the one im from (Walker, Note Passed To Superman 18-19). What Alice is saying is that the world is strange because people judge others by their skin color. The approach NWA takes is a more presumptuous one. In the song Fuck Tha Police, NWA says Young nigga got it bad cuz im brown / And not the other color so police think / They have the authority to kill a minority (NWA Fuck Tha Police 3-5). Another common subect between Black poets and rappers is ghetto life. Nikki Giovanis poem called For Saundra is about how she is going to write a poem about trees and blue skies. Then she realized that she was living in a concrete jungle. i wanted to write / a poem / that rhymes / but revolution doesnt lend / itself to bebopping / then my neighbo r / who thinks i hate / asked -do u ever write / tree poems- i like trees / so i thought / ill write a beautiful geen tree poem / peeked from my window / to check the image / noticed the school yard was covered / with asphalt / no green no trees grow / in Manhattan / then, well, i thought the sky / ill do a big blue sky poem / but all the clouds have winged / low since no-Dick was elected / so i thought again / and it occurred to me / maybe i shouldnt write / at all / but clean my gun / and check my kerosene supply (Giovanni For Saundra)What all this is about is simply the reality of the urban ghettos. Gangstarr also writes lyrics pertaining to ghetto life. In the song In Memory Of, Gangstarr talks about life on the streets and how it is always a hard time for a black man trying to get by in society. If we dont build well be destroyed / Thats the challenge we face in this race of poor and unemployed (Gangstarr In Memory Of 11-12). Love and even more specifically, sex, are yet anoth er subject shared by both rappers and Black poets. The lyrics in the song Brown Skin Woman by KRS-1, are discussing the love for the brown woman and also sex with the brown woman. Haki Madhubuti also writes his poems about love and sex. In the poem My Brothers, Haki is sending a message to the other black males about how they should start to love and respect the females of the black race. My brothers i will not tell you who to love or not love i will only say to you that Black women have not been loved enough (Madhubuti My Brothers 1-6). Wether it be about sex, racism or life in the ghettos, Black poets and Black rappers share the same views and write about the same subjects. .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 , .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 .postImageUrl , .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 , .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095:hover , .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095:visited , .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095:active { border:0!important; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095:active , .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095 .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uac0a3717618ff404ac1084e742bbb095:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Essay about Othello, By William Shakespeare EssayThe language used by Black rappers and Black poets is a strong, short, to the point language. Maya Angelou demonstrates this in her poem Aint That Bad. In the poem Maya uses a lot of repetition to get her point across. Now aint they bad? / Now aint they black? (Angelou Aint That Bad? 17-18). Theses lines are repeated several times in a row during the poem and again at the end of the poem. The lyrics of NWA banned off most radio stations. The videos banned from MTV. And for what? Telling it like it is? (NWA Live From Compton). NWA has been criticized for having vulgar provocative lyrics that simply tell the truth. In the song Fuck Tha Police, they discuss how white police are always all over them for doing absolutely nothing. NWA then goes on to to say that an even worse situation is the black police showing off for the white cop (NWA Fuck Tha Police 20-21). What they mean by this is that when a black and a white cop are working together, the black one has to try and show up the white cop by going to extremes. This often results in the unnecessary death of black men. The language used by most rappers and now even Black poets, is called ebonics. It is also referred to as ghetto slang. Little shorties sedated thinkin the way out is by sellin crack (Grand Puba Change Gonna Come 11 ). This line by Grand Puba is written in basic ebonics. Simply translated it says; kids are thinking that their only way off the streets is to deal drugs. The language used by Black rappers and Black poets is a language that has a lot of power, strength and emotion behind it. What rap artists and poets have most in common are the ir messages. Their messages are of love, hate, racism, violence and of what our world is going to become unless things are changed. A rap artist by the name of Grand Puba talks in his song, Change Gonna Come, about how we need to change the way we live and the way we treat each other. Now lets deal on the real dont you get sick of this? / The way we hate each other this shits ridiculous / Its time we move on to the next phase / Cause theres too many shorties gettin boxed in a grave (Grand Puba Change Gonna Come 26-29). Translated, these lyrics are saying that we have to change the way we hate each other because it is ending up hurting the children in the long run. Sania Sanchez, a black poet, takes a different approach at getting her message across. She uses a layout in her poems that separate words so that the more important ones get noticed. Give us your hungry/ illiterates/ criminals/ dropouts/ (in other words) your blacks and we will let them fight in Vietnam (Sanchez th e final solution/ the leaders speak 12-18). The message she is sending is about discrimination and racism. The actual poem is about how many Black men were sent to Vietnam to fight for a country that they were not even accepted in. Gangstarrs In Memory Of and Nikki Giovannis For Saundra have a strong message about what is happening in urban cities. As discussed before Nikki Giovanni tells of how what was once a nice place to live is now becoming a concrete jungle. There can be comparisons made in the style of writing, the subjects, language and the messages behind the writings. All of these similarities make rap a viable form of poetry that is enjoyed and understood by young people in todays society. Todays teenagers, in many cases, would, not read poetry and comprehend the message, but, they would listen to rap and be able to understand the idea the artist is trying to get across.

Blood Brothers The Final Scene Essay Example For Students

Blood Brothers The Final Scene Essay Blood Brothers is a very dramatic and impressive enactment written by Willy Russell. In my essay, I am going to discuss the final scene, in which Mickey charges into the council offices where at the time Edward is delivering his speech. Mickey has the main role in the final scene; he has Edward at gunpoint, as is not at all sure what he is actually doing. Throughout my essay I am going to explore numerous factors which contribute to the success of the production, this will include, stage set, lighting, characterisation, performance, general theatre, the mass recession on the 1970s, I am also going to write about Willy Russell. The main purpose of my essay is to depict good directing skills and present a clear understanding of the play. Willy Russell was born in Whiston, just outside Liverpool, in 1947. Russell didnt enjoy his education and so left school unqualified, he then became a ladies hairdresser. In 1969, Russell returned to education as a mature student. As an adult learner he made excellent use of his new education and took time to look around and explore. Russell wanted to become a pop or folk singer as he thoroughly enjoyed performing. This then encouraged him to write a musical. He had no previous record of writing musicals for the theatre and during his school days, he hadnt shown any interest in music. Years before Blood Brothers, Russell had performed as a singer and a songwriter in clubs and public houses whilst also working during the day. The enactment was well accepted when it was first performed in a secondary school in Fazakerly, a suburb of Liverpool, despite the fact that the school stage lacked special effects such as lighting and surround sound. Just a year later, Russell then turned this minor play into a globally established production. One summer Blood Brothers was shown on Channel Four. After that, in 1988, Bill Ken Wright opened a new west end production of Blood Brothers Russell has produced many other successful productions, which includes Educating Rita, which was commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1980, and given Londons SWET award for best comedy. Shirley Valentine was also a nominee in 1988 for the Tony Award and drama Desk Award for best comedy of the year. Both of these films were non-musical. Blood Brothers is the intertwined story of two families, and how their lives contrast due to the era the enactment is set in. Miss Johnstone is from a working class background; she has seven children and twins on the way. The childrens father does not live with the family. During this period men worked and women were usually housewives. This also meant the family had no male protection and the children were not disciplined as well as they should have been. When Miss Johnstones twins are born, she is forced to give one of them away or consequently have one of them taken away by social services. Miss Johnstone works for Mrs Lyons (who is from a wealthy background), cleaning her house. Mrs Lyons is barren. She has always wanted a child of her own, when Mrs Lyons hears about Miss Johnstones dilemma she begs her to give one of her twins away (to Mrs Lyons). Mrs Lyons makes Miss Johnstone swear on the bible that she would give her a child. Miss Johnstone later hands over one of her children. Miss Johnstone thinks she will live a better and more contented life if she moved to Skelmersdale. She has a menial job, and lives on the never, never. She is forever paying bills and thinks a fresh start would be a good move. In contrast, the Lyons are a middle class family with much more money that Miss Johnstone, so could therefore afford to send Edward to a private school. The twin brothers are separated, not knowing about each other and leading very contrasting lives. I am going to perform my enactment in the round, I assume the audience will feel more involved, this also ensures the actors are able to interact with the audience enthusiastically. .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c , .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c .postImageUrl , .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c , .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c:hover , .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c:visited , .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c:active { border:0!important; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c:active , .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .uf857492763f80e7507d6d5e1a1e8960c:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: William Shakespeare, the world's most famous playwright, Romeo and Juliet EssayI feel that if the production was performed in a proscenium theatre the audience would find it difficult to engage in the play, as they are more likely to feel less involved. In the round blocking would occur, this happens when the actors face one section of the audience and would result in the opposite sides view being restricted or blocked. Some of the disadvantages of using a proscenium stage, in my opinion would be that the audience would be seated further away from the actors; I feel that this would make it more difficult for the audience to engage in the production.
